"Buckets of Hope" gives every Baptist the opportunity to provide hands-on help to Haitians.  This is a ministry coordinated by leaders of the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Baptist Global Response, International Mission Board and the Florida Baptist Convention.  You can go to the following website to read more about this:  http://www.namb.net/atf/cf/%7Bcda250e8-8866-4236-9a0c-c646de153446%7D/BOHFLYER(V6).PDF

A "Bucket of Hope" consists of a 5 gallon plastic bucket with lid packed with specific food items.  Salem Avenue Baptist Church will provide the "Buckets" and the 2 gallon plastic ziplock bag.  For about $25 anyone can purchase the food to assemble a "Bucket".  You are also requested to include a $10 cash contribution, placed in an envelope which will be attached to the lid of the bucket, to offset the cost of transporting the relief buckets to Haiti.  You may bring the food items to church by Sunday, March 7 and we will pack them on March 10 for delivery on March 11 or 12 to our Missouri Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Director in Jefferson City or if you prefer, your family may purchase your own bucket or pick one up at church and fill it yourself and bring it to the church so they can all be delivered together.  They will then coordinate the delivery to Hialeah, FL for placement in cargo containers for immediate shipment to Haiti.  Before loading in cargo containers, each of the buckets will be labled indicating that the "Bucket of Hope" is a gift of Christian love and support from Southern Baptists.

The food items include the following only:

2 - 5 pound bags long grain enriched rice

1 - 48 ounce plastic bottle of cooking oil

2 - 2 pound bags of dry black beans or dry red beans

1 - 5 pound bag of all purpose flour (not self-rising)

1 - 20 ounce cylinder container of granulated white sugar (coffee service size)

2 - 1 pound boxes of spaghetti noodles

1 - 40 ounce plastic jar of smooth peanut butter

1 - 2 gallon plastic ziplock storage bag (used to wrap the bottle of cooking oil to protect the food items should there be leakage or a break in the bottle during transport)

As you purchase these foods, please pray for the Haitian family that will receive the food.  This food will feed a Haitian family for one week.  Our goal is to fill at least 50 buckets but we would love to exceed that and with the generous souls at SABC, I think that is possible!
